People beware, Facebook are building for brands…

A few thoughts from me on what Facebook’s announcements mean for brands…

In the world of social media, Facebook still represents the biggest marketing opportunity for brands.

On Wednesday Facebook brought together brands and marketeers to announce changes to their advertising formats and brand pages, which will give marketeers a more complete tool to help them capitalise on this opportunity.

Whilst these changes are important for brands, they are also important for Joe Bloggs as these changes are intended to shift the way in which brands interact with normal people on the platform.

Changes to the platform always leads to dissent, however what Facebook are actually doing is better reflecting the role brands have to play in our everyday experience in the offline world, in the social space.

This will all come into place from 30th March, if you manage a Facebook brand page or work for a company who has a brand page, keep reading to understand how it will affect you…

#52weeksofaction #week7

‘Clown house’ - Nigerian Embassy, February 2012

It’s week x of year ABCD and the ? post in my #52weeksofaction. As you may have noticed there was no blog post last week, that’s because I was too busy #makingshithappen and I’ve decided that is okay, okay.

But in case you were wondering, I’m still blogging and this week I’m back to the regular scheduled program.

Last week I realised and probably not for the first time, that people should try as hard as they can to do what they love as often as possible because it will make you happy.
After a long morning in the Nigerian embassy, witnessing the fine art of intercontinental incompetence, I spent the evening auditioning for a place performing in the Olympic opening ceremony.
The 3 hours spent dancing/auditioning, was the most fun I’ve had in years and made me wonder why I’d ever stopped dancing and acting. As a result I’m going to find myself a dance class and maybe audition for a few more things.
On that note, I’d recommend you read another essay from one of my favourite tech people Paul Graham on “How to do what you love”.
Are you doing what you love?
